This is my second attempt at using Photoshop. The text in the layout is simply for show, so it doesn’t make a lot of sense, it comes from a research paper which i had to hand in prior to this assignment for Image Photomedia (a first year subject I’m taking as an elective, the idea of the final assignment (below) was to create an 8 page magazine spread).

Anyway, let me know what you think!

Cheers for the new girls

By REBECCA BAKER

Fresh talent and new looks will dance onto the field this year as Penrith Panthers cheerleaders have replaced over half of their cheer squad.

Some cheerleading pro’s from last year’s squad still reman, however Aaron Neich, who stole the spotlight last year as the squad’s only male dancer, did not attend the auditions earlier this month, despite the positive crowd response.

This year’s auditions showed that choosing dancers is a difficult job and not just based on appearance, as many might think.

Squad manager and member of the judging panel Sarah Harrison said “…the main criteria is to make sure they pick up the routine quickly”.

The team usually has between 16 and 20 cheerleaders, but as auditions were held the panel of judges who select the best dancers found they had a tough task on their hands.

“…there are twenty-two members this year…we just couldn’t decide.” Ms Harrison said.

A more American style of cheering will feature in the entertainment for Panthers fans this year, involving more acrobatics and excitement than ever before.

The busy squad, made up of full time workers  and university students start with five weeks of rehearsals leading up to the first home game and the cheering doesn’t stop there.

Panther’s cheerleaders have already started learning their routines and rehearse every week to get everything down pat.

Ms Harrison expressed her excitement for the new squad members and the coming games, “it’s definitely exciting, we get to know them and they all improve over the season because they’re leaning new routines all the time.”

Although there are many new faces a bond forms between the girls as the season continues. Often the cheerleaders who have been with the team in previous years help out the newer members.

The cheerleaders will be sticking to pink again this year in continuing support for the fight against breast cancer.

Tiger takes record tumble in popularity

SMH.com  “Tiger takes record tumble in popularity”

Tiger Woods has taken the largest rating plunge in Gallup Poll history as a result of the sex scandal that forced the world’s first billion-dollar athlete to halt his epic golf career.

More than a dozen women have claimed affairs with embattled Woods, who has admitted being unfaithful to wife Elin and said he will take a break from professional golf to work on being a better husband, father and person.

This can fall under a few news values, such as ‘celebrity’  and ‘conflict’ (which most celebrity stories are). ‘Timeliness’ can also be considered here, as it is an ongoing story which is followed as events unfold.  However the most dominat quality is the ‘celebrity’ factor.
